Abstract
The features of inequality in access to medical services are revealed and described; the author reveals how the social environment and social status of the patient affect the variability of the search for help and the outcome of its implementation. It is concluded that the inequality here is due to income, age, and health status: socially vulnerable groups rate the quality and availability of medical services lower. Economic, organizational, and sociocultural barriers, such as paid healthcare, long waiting times, and lack of information about the structure of health care is produced by alternative consumer practices: self-medication, treatment with non-traditional methods, refusal of professional medical services.
