Abstract
The article examines the contribution of Aleksandr Mikhailovich Ladyzhensky (1891-1972), professor and doctor of jurisprudence, to the development of legal anthropology of the Caucasus peoples. The author argues that Ladyzhensky was the fi rst among the domestic scholars of the Caucasus to raise the issues of the anthropological approach to studying the legal culture of peoples of the region, as well as to sketch the contours of further development of this branch of scholarship. The article is meant to commemorate Ladyzhenskys 120th anniversary
