Abstract
The article considers the ways of expressing pejoration in the Slovene and Serbian languages. The author lists every type of pejoration and pays special attention to the suffixation. The main difference between these two languages here manifests itself in formation of pejoratives from adjective and verbal stems. In the Slovene language, word- formation patterns of this kind are more productive and enable to form pejoratives from both neutral and emotionally coloured stems. The Serbian language tends to express pejoration both in the stem and in the formant.
