- Abstract
- The article analyzes the cultural specifi city of Epigravettian sites in the center of the Russian Plain on the basis of the minor arts. Especial attention is given to the imagery of women and animals and related ornamental motifs. The article postulates cultural continuity between Gravettian and Epigravettian in Eastern Europe, showing at the same time how Gravettian traditions were modifi ed as the common cultural space on the territory in question was breaking up. The reason for the break-up was probably connected with the inner evolution of the material and spiritual culture of east Gravettian and Epigravettian.
