Abstract
Under J. Trudeau government Canada began to play a more active role in the nuclear disarmament issues. However unlike the period of the Cold War Canada's active role is already negative for the regime of nuclear weapons non-proliferation. During the negotiations to conclude the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons Canada supported nuclear states and tried to justify existence of such weapons. The Trudeau government contrasts the the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons to the "substantial significant steps" to nuclear disarmament - the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and the Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty.
