Abstract
Mexican-American war 1846-1848 relates to turning historical events that determine geopolitical and geo-economic situation on the world stage. Due to Mexico, US gained the most important starting premise for transformation into a great power and then a superpower. 55% of Mexican territory was expropriated at the end of this war. Mexico was doomed to a long peripheral position in the world system; it has become vulnerable to outside intrusions and external pressure in the future.
