Abstract
In this work we analyze Russian dialect words that mean «beautiful», «beauty». The meanings in the semantic fi eld of the beauty are «well-formed, well-done», «fi t, suitable, appropriate», «order, propriety, carefulness», «neat, clear, transparent», «handsome, stately», «adroit», «joy, bliss, delight», «strong, fi rm, portly, healthy», «dandy, ladies man», «decorations, patterns». Although in Russian folklore (e.g. proverbs) the concept «beauty» is evaluated controversally, in the Russian language connotations are considered to be positive, and linguistic data supplement the whole picture with new details.
