Abstract
The author discusses the situation in Osh, Fergana valley, through the prism of dynamics of relationships within ethnically mixed families, focusing on the support and control that are generatedby kin and family relation connections, as well as on the ways in which the latter preserve or alter their shape as a result of the confl ict situation. She analyzes the ties that impede the confl ict escalationand that lead to making potential (ethnic) enemies related to each other. She argues that even though patrilineal relationships are not part of the political system, still the question of nationality makes interethnic marriages risky.
