Abstract

The article draws on materials collected during the fieldwork session of 2007 among the Tatar population of the North Kazakhstan region. Among the questions posed and studied are those of social and demographic trends among the Tatar population in the region, migration trends, ethnic integration factors, and language tendencies. The authors make conclusions about the causes of population decline, the links between ethnicity and identity, the role of the language, and the mechanisms of cultural transmission
