- Abstract
- The article discusses the set of specifi c prohibitions and instructions that have been developed in Khanty's folklore and that have drawn the attention of scholars and researchers working in the area. In relation to each genre of folklore, there emerged special rules concerning the ways of both performing and listening; and those who fail to observe these rules could become subject to punishment. Thus, during the performance, it was impossible to sleep, swear, make noises, and so on. The author provides a detailed view of the phenomenon.
