- Abstract
- Buryats' traditional culture carries traces of the mother-progenitor cult, which may be detected in beliefs such as a commonly held view of a married woman as responsible for the reproduction of her kin and its well-being. By delineating stages the woman's role develops through, namely that of the keeper and that of the priestess, the author attempts to describe the most essential features of the cult under consideration.
