Abstract
The article treats the Carpathian-Balkan lexical parallels in the wedding terminology. One of them deals with the names for symbolic parents kum and kuma (including derivations) by the Southern Slavs (excluding Slovenians) and Hutsuls, as well as Sothern-Slavic-Slovak adjectives for these persons, such as «fat», «portly» and «wide», as special names for the symbolic father’s assistant by most of the Southern Slavs and Ukrainians of Bukovina. Another parallel is the names of betrothal with the stem « god -» by the Bulgarians and Boykos connected with the semantic of reaching agreement, mutual understanding of the parts. The third example is the common name for the wedding flag «+ zastava » by Serbs, Croats, Slovenians, Slovaks and Carpathian Ukrainians. The last conformity is similar names for « kvitka » (a ritual object in the form of flowers, threads, garland, bow, plume and so on), which go back to the old- Slavic «* kyta » by the Southern Slavs, Czechs, Slovaks and Western Ukrainians.
