Abstract
The paper deals with the study of specific traits of skeletal construction of the inhabitants of Yaroslavl perished during Batu-Khan's invasion in 1238AD. It is based on the record of the excavations carried out by a team of the Institute of Archaeology RAS headed by A.V. Engovatova. An infragrup analysis enabled us to recognize a relative morphological homogeneity of the city population in the Pre-Mongol period while revealing a wide scatter of the body length. An intergroup analysis involving synchronous groups from other Old Russian sites, Central and Northern Europe, Siberia and the Low Volga reaches has shown a particular resemblance of the inhabitants of Yaroslavl to the population of Upper Kiev of the 11th- 13th centuries AD and that of Scandinavia.
