Abstract
In 1445, Kazan became the administrative center of the state which historical publications name the Kazan Khanate. The Kazan Kremlin became the political center of the new state. The third layer of the stratigraphic sequence in the Kazan Kremlin is assumed to be connected with the formation of the cultural layer during the time of the Kazan Khanate. This layer was covered over by the second layer, which is charcoal. The latter must have appeared during the 1552 fire. Many building horizons from various archeological objects were identified within the modern Kremlin. A total area of over 20 000 square meters has been investigated. Unique monumental complexes have been revealed: Khan’s palace, Khan’s mosque, Khan’s mausoleum, Kul Sharif mosque, etc. Archeologists studied the interior plan of the town and the street structure as well as the character of housing possessions, dwellings and auxiliary structures. The material culture of the population of Khan’s Kazan was revealed for the first time.
