Abstract

Not long ago, in 1980s , six inscribed tombstones of Prince Pozharsky’s family were uncovered at the SpasoEuphymiev monastery in Suzdal. All six inscriptions have been soon published. However, the dates on two of them have been written improperly. One of the tombstones, which belongs to Euphymia, the mother of Prince Dmitry Pozharsky, was dated back to 1632. (Prince Dmitry Pozharsky was a prominent commander of the early 17th c., who helped to bring the Time of Troubles to an end and obtained from the Tsar an unprecedented title of the Saviour of Motherland). The second one, which belongs to the grandson of the Prince, was dated to 1620. Actually, in both cases, the proper reading of these inscriptions confirms the date “1640”, which contributes an essential missing piece to the history of the Pozharsky’s family.
