Abstract
Modern political and economic conditions returned the popularity of investigative journalism in the United States. Investigations in the media have a great impact on readers; especially this applies to the nonprofit centers for investigative journalism. They published materials into the Internet, and the audience can comment and discuss all of investigations easily. The experience has shown that many investigations have a great public response and led to changes in the government policy. A striking example is the investigation "Panama Papers" of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ISIJ), which proved the existence of accounts in offshore companies of many famous politicians, businessmen and celebrities. The investigation became known around the world and discussed of different social groups, which has led to numerous inspections from tax authorities. "ProPublica" non-profit center's materials have also led to changes in legislation, the closure of some companies, criminal convictions. This article describes in detail the levels of influence of the modern investigative journalism in the US, analyzed the most high-profile and large-scale investigation of the XXI century, the characteristic of the current non-profit investigative journalism centers in the United States and concluded that, how investigative journalism are influential today.
