- Abstract
- The article is dedicated to a previously unknown Slavic translation of the essay «De imitatione Christi» by Thomas à Kempis written in West Russia in the early 1640s. A fragmentary translation of Parts One and Four was made from the Latin edition of 1635 published by Henry Sommalius and accredited to the Byzantine saint Thomas Malein by the translator. Accredited to him, the translation was included into the miscellanea «Alpha and Omega» edited by hegumen Hedeon of Bizyukov Monastery and published in 1645, then it was printed in the old believer editions of the miscellanea from 1786 and 1788 and it still exists in old believer manuscript miscellanea as a monument of the Byzantine patristic tradition.
